Cincy Blues Fest

The Blues: 6.11.16 show

Jun 12, 2016

Sugar Ray starts off this Saturday's edition of The Blues with "It's a Low Down Dirty Shame."  He's followed by Jeannie & Jimmy Cheatham on Concord Records, "Luv in the Afternoon."  You'll also hear from the Gene Harris Quartet and the great Al Green in the first set.

The second set features Little Milton, Joan Armatrading, Eric Bibb, and Chris Thomas King.  And the show ends with Buddy Guy & Junior Wells, Ruth Brown, Laura Nyro, and Bobby McFerrin in the last set.

Acclaimed local jazz musician and King Records’ legend Philip Paul will be honored during the upcoming Cincy Blues Fest with the city proclaiming August 8 as Philip Paul Day.

Please note: The unveiling of Big Joe Duskin's memorial plaque has been postponed until Saturday, September 12th at noon at Taft's Ale House in Over-the-Rhine.

Cincinnati’s master of boogie woogie piano, Ricky Nye, tells Lee Hay about a historical plaque honoring the late, great Big Joe Duskin that will be unveiled on August 8 at 14th and Vine in Over the Rhine, as well as Philip Paul’s performance with him at the Arches Stage at the Cincy Blues Fest on Saturday, August 8.

Believe it or not, it’s almost time for the 23rd installment of the Cincy Blues Fest. Chuck Brisbin, who coordinates the local stage at the Fest, is with our contributor, musician Chris Comer, to preview the beer, food, bands and performers coming to Sawyer Point on August 7 and 8.

This week on The Blues (April 4th at 11pm), you'll hear a number of musicians with tour dates in the Greater Cincinnati area.

Three acts have been signed for the Cincy Blues Fest on August 7th & 8th.  Tab Benoit, Tommy Castro and Samantha Fish will all be coming to Cincinnati to perform.  They'll all be performing on the main stage.

This local special starts off with Whiskey Shambles and Kelly Richey who'll both be performing at the Smokin' Hot BBQ event at Findlay Market on Sunday, July 27th.  The 2nd set of this evening's blues show features three musicians, Jarekus Singleton, Selwyn Birchwood, & Guy Forsyth,  who'll be playing at the Cincy Blues Fest on Friday or Saturday evenings, August 1st or 2nd.

Cincy Blues Fest is looking for volunteers to help out with a shift or two on Friday, 8/1 or Saturday, 8/2.

You can sign up via volunteers@cincyblues.org or leave a message for Marschelle Schauble on the Cincy Blues Society voice mail: 513-739-2583. More information is also on the Cincy Blues Fest volunteer page.

A letter from our friends at the Cincy Blues Fest:

Cincy Blues Fans:

George Hibben, director of stein sales & development from the Rookood Pottery Co, is talking commemorative beer steins with Lee Hay. Again this year, the world-famous Rookwood Pottery artists have created a limited edition stein in conjunction with the Cincy Blues Society and this year's Cincy Blues Fest. The first run is for 300 steins and each one will be registered to the owner by the Cincy Blues Society.
