Metro's new CEO Dwight Ferrell, on the job 100 days, told  attendees at Wednesday's  Cincinnati USA Chamber of Commerce breakfast, "We have an opportunity to do something significant here."

He would like to vary the size of Metro buses to serve people in the most economical way.  Ferrell compared the current Metro to Southwest Airlines. "Southwest flies 100 percent 737s, different lengths, but their fleet is homogeneous. Currently we are like Southwest. We need to be like Delta and others in terms of fleet make-up."

  It can start with a good morning nod, a handshake or an invitation for a cup of coffee, that gesture that says “welcome.” Most folks here know it’'s a good place to live. But often those who move into the area, who don'’t identify with the east or west side, who didn'’t go to high school here, can get the feeling Cincinnati is not all that accepting of outsiders.

In its heyday the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport saw Delta offer 670 daily flights with direct service to Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Rome and Paris.  But that was 2005 and this is now.

Today passenger flights total 178 a day with one international flight to Paris.

Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber President and CEO Ellen van der Horst announced Tuesday that she will not renew her contract that ends early next year. The chamber will soon begin a search for her successor and van der Horst will stay on until her replacement is named.

The Greater Cincinnati region is slightly ahead of the nation according to the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky joint chambers' 2013 economic outlook released Tuesday.
