Starting March 7, the annual Cincinnati International Wine Festivalwill begin three days of tastings, wine dinners, auctions and grand tastings at the Duke Energy Convention Center. This year’s Honorary Chairman is Donald Patz, founder of Patz and Hall, one of California’s premier single vineyard wineries. News Director Maryanne Zeleznik, proud mother of a young girl, spoke recently with Ana Homayoun, author of the recently released book The Myth of the Perfect Girl: Helping Our Daughters Find Authentic Success and Happiness in School and Life. The book makes the case that in our achievement driven, success at any cost lifestyle, even for junior high and high school girls, that the stresses of being the best, or seen as the best, is costing them to lose sight of their true identity. As author Susan Shapiro said of the book, "A smart, funny and engaging study on how to give girls the tools to figure out what they really want - and how to get it. A must-read for girls, mothers, educators and anybody who wants to understand half the population."
It’s almost time for more bouts, pivots, jammers and blockers. The Cincinnati Rollergirls, stars of the flat track roller derby world, kick off their 2013 home season on March 23 at the historic Cincinnati Gardens. The Front Row with Betsy Ross welcomes in a couple of the Rollergirls to preview the upcoming season, talk a bit about the team and the sport, and how their fan base has grown over the years.
