Batman

ABC Television

My favorite memory of Adam West, the 1960s TV icon who starred as "Batman," was when he swung by to visit a local TV icon, Bob Shreve, on Channel 12's "Past Prime Playhouse."

West, who died Friday June 9 at age 88, visited the crazy overnight movie host in late 1975 or early 1976 while in town for a custom car show.

The four-week February sweeps starting Thursday, Feb. 2, bring more spin-offs and revivals from TV shows and movies.

Here's a look at sweeps highlights:

Holy Nostalgia, Batman! TV’s original Dynamic Duo – Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) – will attend the Cincinnati Comic Expo Sept. 19-20 at Duke Energy Convention Center.

“Batman” celebrates its 50th anniversary on Jan. 12, 1966. ABC aired two half-hour episodes a year the first season, both of which finished in the top 10 for the 1965-66  TV year. They filmed 120 episodes, plus a “Batman” movie in two years.

The main problem with all the remakes, retreads, and reboots on movie screens anymore is that, after a while, there’s nothing different that can be done with these films. Last month’s The Amazing Spiderman is a perfect example. Although I haven’t seen it yet, many friends have told me that it was the same story as the first film, just with a different cast. Where’s the joy in that?
