Tom Waits bulletin

Oct 16, 2013

Tom Waits, Sinead O'connor and Lucinda Williams have signed on to record tracks for a new Blind Willie Johnson tribute album - if fans fund the project online.

The Blind Boys of Alabama and Rickie Lee Jones have also agreed to perform a Johnson cover for the album following the launch of a Kickstarter.com crowdsourcing campaign on Tuesday (15Oct13).

A post on the project's new site reads, "Our mission is to shine a light and acknowledge this important and influential artist currently representing mankind in outer space.

This week’s Blues show will feature a mix of new and archival blues recordings. Some of the new releases this year include Paul Allen, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, and Amos Lee.  The show ends with some favorites by Jeff Black, the Allman Brothers, and local guitar wizard Scotty Anderson.

This week’s Blues show starts off with a new song from German musician Tony Hudspeth called “Good Times.”

Kudos to Steeplejack Music in Germany for sending us his cd.  The rest of the program features some of my personal favorites like “Nite Mist Blues” by the Monty Alexander Trio, plus Chet Baker and Johnny Adams.

The Blues show with Lee Hay this Saturday night, July 27th at 11pm, will feature August blues concerts/festivals in the Greater Cincinnati area.  Besides music from various featured musicians, there will be interviews with Peter Frampton, George Hibben from Rookwood Pottery, plus Marcos Sastre and Rick Leighton from the Bluebirds.

A letter from our friends at the Cincy Blues Fest:

We Were Here

Jan 19, 2013

A rebroadcast of the first hour of the award-winning special “We Were Here” will be aired Saturday, January 19th, at 11pm.  This special was produced by Lee Hay in 2003 as an outgrowth of her blues show and the discordant atmosphere between the races in Cincinnati.

Winter Blues Fest

Jan 15, 2013

On February 8 and 9, 2013, Cincinnati will be rocking with more than 25 blues bands. The Cincy Blues Society's Winter Blues Fest celebrates over two decades of supporting the Blues. This year's festival showcases the best local and regional Blues musicians for two nights, from 7:00 pm to 1:00 am at The Phoenix in downtown Cincinnati.

As the nation continues to mourn the senseless violence that claimed so many innocent lives in Newtown, Connecticut last Friday, musicians around the country are organizing to send a message of sympathy and unity.

All musicians are asked to observe a moment of silence at every musical performance in the USA on Saturday, December 22nd, 2012 at 10:00 PM in whatever time zone they are performing.
