Updating the Green Cincinnati plan

City of Cincinnati website

Officials are working to update the city's sustainability plan called Green Cincinnati.

Environmental Quality Director Larry Falkin said it's the roadmap preparing the city to be environmentally, economically and socially successful in competitions with other cities and parts of the world.

The plan was drafted in 2007 and city council adopted it a year later.

Now Falkin said it's time for an update.

“We’re broadening the plan to be not just focused on climate protection, but more broadly on all areas of sustainability,” Falkin said.  “It’s going to show us how Cincinnatians can live a better lifestyle using less resources.”

The original Green Cincinnati plan had 80 recommendations and two-thirds of them have been or are in the process of being implemented.  Falkin said the rest were found not to be practical.

Falkin said the public can offer feedback.

“We’re going to be taking out to community council meetings and community meetings and getting online input from anybody who has ideas on how to make the plan better,” Falkin said.  “We’re inviting and welcoming that kind of feedback on the draft plan.”

The full city council could be asked to adopt it in April.
