Tea Party convention in Ohio shows split with GOP

Tea Party activists are being told they have a lot of opportunity in next year’s elections, as they continue to oppose Republicans on several issues. But they also are being told they have a lot of work to do.

The more than 300 activists at the statewide Tea Party’s annual We The People Convention seem to be standing solidly against the Republican Party’s most visible candidate next year.

“How many in this room are going to vote for John Kasich for governor? One, two, three. How many in this room are going to work for John Kasich in this coming election? One.”  Portage County Tea Party executive director Tom Zawistowski says his supporters are looking at Libertarian Charlie Earl, and that they’re confident if they desert Kasich and Democrat Ed FitzGerald wins, he wouldn’t have enough support in the legislature to make big changes.
