Swing with Bill Cartwright: 6.6.15 show

Bill begins this week's Swing show (which airs on Saturday night, June 6th at 10pm) with the tune, "The Song is Ended" by vocalist Dakota Staton.  I did some online research and discovered several different references to her birth year from 1930 to 1931 and 1932.  So, I'm going with 1930 as mentioned in her 2007 New York Times obituary.  Her first album which was on Capitol, "The Late, Late Show," was a hit in 1957.  The song Bill features tonight is from her 1959 album also on Capitol, "More Than the Most."

Other vocalists in the first half of this Swing show include Bing Crosby, the King Sisters, Ella Fitzgerald and Paul Anka.

The second half of Swing begins with Glen Gray's version of the Count Basie composition "Jumpin' at the Woodside" followed by Billie Holiday, Tommy Dorsey and Harry James.  The evening's program ends with Linda Ronstadt, "You Took Advantage of Me," and Cincinnati's own Blue Wisp Big Band, "Sweet Georgia Brown."  During the month of June, you'll find the Blue Wisp Big Band performing at Urban Artifactin Northside onWednesday evenings from 8:30-11:30pm on June 10th and 24th.
