Chris Comer, jazz pianist and leader of The Chris Comer Trio, has reformed and revamped the lineup for the new JAZZ EXPLOSION. The Chris Comer Jazz Explosion performs at MOTR Pub on Sunday August 17 at 7:00pm. No opening act. Named in tribute of great traditional ensembles like The Jazz Messengers, The Jazz Crusaders and The Jazz Passengers, the all-new JAZZ EXPLOSION adds a funk, rock, avant-experimental art-damage element to improvisational music and promises to sound nothing like traditional jazz.
Cincinnati native Fred Hersch has released a cd, Floating, with his trio that The Wall Street Journal calls "one of the major ensembles of our time". Fred Hersch is on piano along with bassist John Hebert and drummer Eric McPherson. The cd features 7 new compositions by Fred Hersch along with music by Dietz/Schwartz, Lerner/Loewe and Thelonious Monk.
Musicians came into the studio that day to honor legendary drummer John Von Ohlen who has played with many jazz greats including Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Cal Collins, Rosemary Clooney, Tony Bennett, and Perry Como. He's also recorded albums with many other greats like Carmen McRae, Keith Jarrett, Kenny Poole, John Clayton, Mel Torme & the Marty Paich Orchestra, and Benny Carter. John Von Ohlen was inducted into the CEA 2005 Hall of Fame.
