Remembering Victims Of Domestic Violence

WCPO
Monica Jeter was stabbed by her husband Andre Jeter in October 2014. She died from her injuries in November 2014.

Last October, in North College Hill, Monica Jeter was stabbed to death by her husband. It happened right in front of four of her five children as reported by our news partner, WCPO. Months earlier she had gotten a restraining order after Andre Jeter attempted to strangle her, but later it was removed.

Monica's sisters Heather Randolph and Tracy Fisher are still trying to cope. Tuesday night they will speak at the 28th Annual Candlelight Vigil sponsored by Women Helping Women and the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati. It begins at 6:45 p.m. at the Hamilton County Courthouse.

This is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The vigil comes in the midst of an effort by Randolph and Fisher to get "Monica's Law" passed. It would make strangulation a felony. Right now it's a misdemeanor if the person doesn't die.

Andre Jeter has been found incompetent to stand trial.
