Recount makes it official: Colerain police levy passes, barely

A recount of the Colerain Township police levy on the May 6 ballot has shown the issue passed by only 9 votes.

The official count had the levy passing by 11 votes out of a little over 6,700 ballots cast. Hamilton County election officials completed the recount Monday. The board of elections certified the results this morning.

Colerain Township officials say the additional levy was needed to hire new police officers and equipment. The township ended its contract with the Hamilton County sheriff's department last year. The levy will generate $2 million a year.

An automatic recount is required in any candidate race or ballot issue where the margin of difference is less than one half of one percent.
