Regents Professor Bob Wallace will set sail this summer aboard the Charles W. Morgan, America’s oldest remaining commercial ship. Between 1841 and 1921 the Morgan embarked on 37 whaling voyages, and is the sister ship to the Acushnet, which Herman Melville sailed from New Bedford in 1841, and the inspiration for his novel, Moby-Dick. Dr. Wallace, one of the world’s preeminent experts on Melville and the classic about the great white whale, joins us with some history of our maritime past, a preview of his upcoming adventure, and what he and his fellow voyagers hope to learn.
