Nightshade Ink: The Art of the Tattoo

There is often a vague distinction between the art of the tattoo and that of more 'traditional' art  - the kind that you might find hanging on a gallery wall.  Now, thanks to the folks at RockPaper Scissors and Nightshade Ink, that distinction will be erased.

Christopher Sanders, owner of Nightshade Ink, a tattoo studio on Fourth Street in downtown Cincinnati, has assembled a collection of art created by himself and his fellow artists at Nightshade.

Chirstopher Sanders has been doing tattoo art since 1992. He began tattooing in Savannah, GA and moved to Cincinnati in 2000. He is accomplished in Neo-Traditional Japanese and American styles as well as black and gray. He also loves to do lettering. Brett Hoersting stated tattooing professionally 8 years ago. He completed a traditional apprenticeship and has worked in several different shop settings, which has allowed a versatile approach to his style of tattooing, with an emphasis on solid line work, smooth shading, and bold color. Jaimie Filer has been apprenticing at the shop for a year, and is currently finishing his first tattoos.

The exhibit opensFriday, May 30, at 6pm at Rock Paper Scissors located at 1301 Main St. downtown as part of this month’s Final Friday celebration and is curated by Lindsay Nehls.
