Military veterans invited to VA Medical Center's "town hall" forum today

Military veterans are invited to an open forum at the Cincinnati V-A Medical Center today to sound off and ask questions about V-A health care.

The forum begins at 6 p.m. today in the first floor auditorium of the medical center at 3200 Vine Street in Corryville.

Cincinnati VA spokesperson Denise Kerr says similar forums are being held this month at VA health care facilities around the country, at the direction of Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald, the former  CEO of Proctor & Gamble.

The forum comes after a year when there were numerous news reports of problems in the VA health care system, particularly in the time veterans have to wait to be treated. Former Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki was forced to resign in May; and President Obama replaced him with McDonald in July.

Kerr says there will be a question and answer period that will last for over 90 minutes.

“Then we’ll have an opportunity for veterans to have one-on-one counseling with our subject matter experts and our chief of medical service to help them with their issues, if they have any,’’ Kerr said.
