Meet Steve Kemple, Cincinnati's Cool Librarian And Exhibiting Artist

Provided

The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County has a champion who works to keep the library fun, creative and relevant. Artist and librarian Steve Kemple, dubbed by CityBeat as a ?cool librarian? in its Cool Issue two years ago, curates the monthly Experimental Music at the Library performance series at the Main Library downtown.

Often donning a gorilla suit, he organizes events that make use of the space in unorthodox ways, such as for film screenings or live shows.

He was the Artist-In-Residence from June to November for the library-oriented political action committee EveryLibrary. EVERYTHING, his second solo show, is currently on view until December 28th at Pique art space in Covington, KY. Steve joins us to talk about what it takes to spice up a traditionally quiet and conventional space.
