Media Writer John Kiesewetter Joins Cincinnati Public Radio
For more than 30 years, John Kiesewetter was the source for information about all things in local media – comings and goings, local people appearing on the big or small screen, special programs, and much more. Though his time at the Cincinnati Enquirer ended last year, local media is still his beat and he’s bringing his interest, curiosity, contacts and unique style to Cincinnati Public Radio and 91.7 WVXU starting Wednesday, July 1.
John joined The Enquirer as a summer intern in 1975 and parlayed it into a nearly 40 year career as a reporter, editor and TV critic. He interviewed many of the major TV entertainers from the past 50 years, while being the go-to source for the comings and goings of Greater Cincinnati TV/ radio personalities and programs, and local movies. Some of his favorite stories were spending a day at “ER” with George Clooney; attending tapings of “Seinfeld,” “Friends,” and “The Daily Show”; interviewing David Letterman in his office after a “Late Show” taping in New York; and spending a day with Fred Rogers on his “Mister Rogers Neighborhood” set in Pittsburgh.
Readers who enjoyed John’s previous blog will now find John Kiesewetter: Media Beat on its new home, wvxu.org. “We are proud to welcome John to the Cincinnati Public Radio family. His blog was always widely read and much talked about and we think his fans and those curious about local TV, radio, personalities and programs will be happy to have him back online,” said Richard Eiswerth, president/CEO/GM of Cincinnati Public Radio, home of WVXU, WMUB and WGUC.
“I’m excited to revive my TV/Media blog, thanks to my friends at Cincinnati Public Radio. I’ve been a loyal WVXU listener for years, and have helped on some fund-raisers – and I’ve got the Borgman cartoon to prove it,” Kiesewetter said.
In addition to resurrecting his local media blog, keep an ear out for John on some of the local programs produced and broadcast on 91.7, 88.5, online at wvxu.org, wmub.org and on the station’s free mobile app. These include the daily talk show Cincinnati Edition – where John will appear this Wednesday, July 1 - and the weekly arts & culture magazine program Around Cincinnati.
Cincinnati Public Radio Inc. is a locally operated non-profit organization, home to Classical 90.9 WGUC and news/information stations 91.7 WVXU and 88.5 WMUB.
