Last year, the Ohio Department of Transportation received 364 claims for reimbursement to repair vehicles damaged by potholes.

This year, the department has received 928 claims, due mostly to a harsher winter. The department says from 2013 through this past April, it has paid 3.4 million dollars to to drivers who claimed the state was negligent for not filling potholes. The department is asking motorists to report the location of potholes, saying it is not liable for damage if it doesn't know about them.
