Certified homeownership counselors will spend Wednesday answering phones and doling out help. Several agencies are coming together for a foreclosure prevention phone-a-thon.

Debbie Somerville is with Save the Dream Ohio, one of the agencies staffing the phone bank.

"Ohio is back up as one of the top five (states) in foreclosures in the nation," she says. "To put that in context, that's about one in 500 homes."

Homeownership Center of Greater Cincinnati President/CEO Rick Williams says people in Ohio and Indiana facing foreclosure can call in and apply for assistance.

"Each states program has actual dollars that can help you get current in your mortgage payments or help you to make those mortgage payments over a period of time," he says. "In addition, we take information such that we can work with your lender. If you're not eligible for each state's program, the lenders have their own programs."

The phone-a-thon runs from 6 am to 7 pm. The phone number is 877-7BUZZ-US (877-728-9987).
