Two Cincinnati council members say they have a funding plan to renovate a Mt. Auburn park and improve pedestrian access along Auburn Avenue.

Charlie Winburn and Chris Seelbach introduced a motion Monday to invest $9 million during the next two years for the projects.

Seelbach said the city's investment will bring an additional $100 million in private investment nearby.

“As we’ve seen with Washington Park, these dollars do more than beautify our neighborhoods,” Seelbach said in a statement. “Inwood Park will become a destination in Uptown, drawing families, students and neighbors to spend time together enjoying our City.”

Inwood Park connects the CUF and Mt. Auburn neighborhoods.  It is considered a gateway between Downtown and Uptown.  The council members said the $5 million renovation plan will reduce crime, increase quality of life, and provide more recreational opportunities.

“After decades of delay, the citizens of Mt. Auburn and Cincinnati welcome the major renaissance of their neighborhood with a view towards job creation,” said Winburn in a statement.

North American Properties and Uptown Rental have announced plans to build a 400 unit residential development and add more than 60,000 square feet of new medical office space along Auburn Avenue.

The additional funds in the plan would pay for Auburn Avenue upgrades to improve traffic flow and pedestrian connectivity throughout Mt. Auburn.  Some of those items are better street lighting, safer intersections, and trees.
