The company that made the ride that malfunctioned at the Ohio State Fair, killing one man, says "excessive corrosion" is to blame.
Dutch manufacturer KMG says in a memo the corrosion on a support beam led to a "catastrophic failure."
The memo, posted on the company's Facebook page, says an investigation of the Fire Ball ride found "excessive corrosion on the interior of the gondola support beam dangerously reduced the beam's wall thickness over the years."
The company concludes the corrosion led to the failure.
Eighteen-year-old Tyler Jarrell died of blunt force trauma injuries when he was thrown from the ride as it broke apart July 26. Four others were hospitalized, including one person in a coma.
KMG ordered all similar rides around the world shut down following the incident.
