Earth Day 2014

Thane Maynard, Sofia Cifuentes and Brewster Rhoads
First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day highlights the progress we've made, and challenges ahead, in conservation and sustainability.

Many consider Earth Day 1970 the birth of the modern environmental movement. Since then, each year on April 22, millions of people all over the world take some action in support of a greener, cleaner, more sustainable environment. Joining us to talk about the progress we’ve made since that first Earth Day, and the challenges we face today, are Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden Director Thane Maynard, Zoo Sustainability Coordinator Sofia Cifuentes, and and Brewster Rhoads, executive director of  Green Umbrella Regional Sustainability Alliance.  The Zoo’s Earth Day celebration, “Party for the Planet,” takes place April 24.

Maryanne Zeleznik is responsible for all news and public affairs programming at WVXU. She also hosts Morning Edition Monday through Friday.
