With the holiday season out of the way, contractors are again laying track for the Cincinnati streetcar.

And this weekend, they will close a major Downtown intersection.  6th Street will be closed at Walnut, starting at 6 p.m. Friday.  And it will stay closed until about 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.

According to the City, one lane of southbound traffic on Walnut will be open from 7th Street to the Fountain Square Garage  as workers install track and pour concrete.  Sidewalk access to the Contemporary Arts Center, 21C Hotel and other businesses and buildings will be maintained.

Motorists will be detoured south on Walnut, west on Fourth, north on Vine and back to 6th

Parking will be restricted during work hours.

Elsewhere Downtown, the City says work is progressing.  Two lanes of 5th Street are closed between Walnut and Main, for the installation of a utility vault on the southwest corner of 5th and Main.  And Main Street has lane closures at 3rd Street, over Fort Washington Way.

The streetcar is expected to begin operations in September, 2016.
