Busy weekend on tap for downtown Cincinnati

Downtown Cincinnati has a busy weekend on tap. Oktoberfest kicks off this evening and runs through Sunday. There's also a 14K run, and UC's Homecoming, all capped off by a Bengals home game.

City officials are encouraging people to plan ahead and use public transportation as a number of streets will be closed or detoured.

Most public garages will remain open, though entrances and exits may be limited at certain times. Construction activity in the area will be suspended during the weekend to reduce potential congestion. Police will direct traffic at critical intersections affected by road closures. This weekend’s events: ? Oktoberfest Zinzinnati: 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19 through 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21. Streets along Fifth between Vine and Broadway will close starting at 9 a.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22. To help reduce congestion, motorists are urged to use alternate routes. Broadway between Seventh and Sixth streets will be converted from one-way to two-way during Oktoberfest. Normal Metro bus service in the area will be detoured around the closures. Riders should follow the instructions posted at their stop. ? Hudy 14K Brewery Run: 8 a.m. race time Saturday, Sept. 20. Streets near The Banks and Queensgate will close 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. ? University of Cincinnati Homecoming Parade: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. Joe Nuxhall Way will close starting at 1 p.m. Freedom Way from Joe Nuxhall Way to Elm Street will close for the parade at 3:30 p.m. Traffic will be maintained on Walnut and Rosa Parks during the parade with Cincinnati police directing traffic. ? University of Cincinnati Football Game: 7 p.m. kickoff Saturday, Sept. 20, Paul Brown Stadium. The following roads will be closed 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.: Elm between Second and Mehring Way, Freedom Way between Race and Elm. ? Cincinnati Bengals/Titans Football Game: 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, Paul Brown Stadium. The following streets will be closed: Elm between Second and Mehring Way, Freedom between Elm and Race, and Freedom between Walnut and Joe Nuxhall Way. Lane restrictions on Race, Rosa Parks and Walnut streets.
