The Blues: 10.11.14 show

I went into an unplanned direction on this Saturday's show.  Sometimes music will take you on a voyage, and so it goes.  I had a stack of cds on my desk that I had pulled for the show.  The top one was Wynton Marsalis's cd "The Midnight Blues: Standard Time vol.5."  It had kind of a jazzy blues feel, and a new path was forged.

The next song was Nina Simone's "My Man's Gone Now,"  followed by "These Foolish Things" by Jimmy McGary who was recorded by WVXU in 1987.  Backing him up were the great Fred Hersch on piano, Michael Moore on bass, plus drummer Joey Baron.  Loved that version!

From there, I threw in some favorites like Chet Baker, Diana Krall , Miles Davis and the Monty Alexander Trio.  And, the show ends with Ernestine Anderson and Billie Holiday.
