Tana Weingartner earned a bachelor's degree in communication from the University of Cincinnati and a master's degree in mass communication from Miami University. Most recently, she served as news and public affairs producer with WMUB-FM. Ms. Weingartner has earned numerous awards for her reporting, including several Best Reporter awards from the Associated Press and the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists. She served on the Ohio Associated Press Broadcasters Board of Directors from 2007 - 2009.

NKY man first flu-related death of season

The first flu-related death of the season is being reported in Northern Kentucky.

The Northern Kentucky Health Department says a Kenton County man died from complications of the flu. The department says the middle-aged man had a history of chronic health problems that may have made him more susceptible to flu.

So far this season, more than 330 cases of flu have been reported in Northern Kentucky.

Hamilton County cracking down on commerical vehicle violations

Hamilton County is dedicating a full-time Sheriff's deputy to catching semis and others breaking commercial vehicle laws.

The Sheriff and county engineer have been working together on this issue but now Engineer Ted Hubbard says the departments are formalizing the arrangement.

"We have to be able to make sure that the vehicles that travel over the roadway system are the proper weight and the proper size," says Hubbard. "If they're not it can cause undue damage to the infrastructure system."

Dayton's new mayor takes office

Nan Whaley becomes Dayton's second female mayor.

Dayton's new mayor officially takes office Monday morning at a 10 o'clock ceremony.

Mayor-elect Nan Whaley becomes the city's second female mayor. The first was Rhine McLin who served two terms from 2002 to 2010.

Commissioner Joey Williams and Commissioner-elect Jeffrey Mims Jr are also being sworn in to 4-year terms. This is Williams fourth term and Mims' first.

The ceremony will take place at the Dayton Convention Center.

Report recommends flat renewal of DD services levy

A consultant's report on the Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services levy is recommending the tax rate remain unchanged when it comes up for a vote in May. The agency has requested its levy rate remain flat.

The report will be officially presented Monday to the Tax Levy Review Committee.

Christmas tree recycling this weekend

If your once glorious Christmas tree is starting to look a little worse for wear, Hamilton County is ready to help you recycle. Three recycling sites open Saturday. They'll accept trees and other holiday greenery.

Details from Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District:

Saturday, January 4 and January 11, 2014 from noon–3:00 pm, sites will be open to receive holiday greenery.
