Horseshoe executives say they're excited about the casino's turnout after the first two weeks of business.

During an update to Hamilton County Commissioners, General Manager Kevin Kline reports the casino is making good on its hiring promises. He says the casino promised to hire 90 percent of its employees from the Cincinnati metro area. Currently, that number is 92 percent.

Kline says the casino is now working with downtown businesses and the convention and visitors bureau on ways to attract more people to the region.
 

Researchers at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Institute are studying whether a widely used cholesterol-reducing drug can help prevent the recurrence of colorectal cancer.

The multi-year study is currently looking for participants.

Several council members are refusing to march in the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade this weekend because a gay rights group was not allowed to participate.

Josh Wagoner with The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) says the group was notified Thursday that it was prohibited from marching in the parade.

Military flyovers have become a standard part of major sporting events. But now the military is telling its elite air units to 'stand down' because of the sequester.

That means no special appearances at popular air shows and no military flyovers at baseball games, NASCAR races or soccer matches.

The Air Force, for example, says the Thunderbirds are canceling all performances effective April 1.
