Mark Perzel

Host of Cincinnati Edition

Mark Perzel hosts 91.7 WVXU’s Cincinnati Edition on Monday afternoons at 1:00 pm. 

In addition, he can be heard weekday evenings hosting classical music on 90.9 WGUC.  He is also known throughout the public radio industry for inventive, award-winning holiday programs like Tunes from the Crypt, Tunes from the Crypt Goes to the Movies, Feast for the Ears, andLove Greetings.

Mark has worked in the radio industry for more than thirty years. He began in the business when he was a teenager in Charlotte, North Carolina, volunteering for a public radio station.   He attended the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, majoring in broadcasting and minoring in violin performance.

He has performed speaking parts with performing organizations throughout the tri-state including the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Carnegie Opera Theatre, and the Linton Chamber Music Series, and done voiceover work for numerous commercials and industrial videos.

Daniel Meek is the program director for the non-profit Cincinnati Computer Cooperative, which works to recycle old computers into working, viable products for use by schools and other non-profits. As their mission statement points out, the organization would like to improve the student-to-computer ratio in order to better prepare students for higher education and careers. Daniel Meek came by our studios to talk with Mark Perzel about Cincinnati Computer Cooperative and how businesses and individuals can be part of their effort.

With college costs rising at an alarming rate, more and more students are leaving school with a debt load that is stifling as they begin to start their post-college careers. David Dougherty, the former president of  Convergys, which provides customer and information services to a variety of large corporations, has one solution. Since retiring, he has focused on a new non-profit, Education @ Work, which provides jobs and tuition incentives for college students, helping reduce their debt and earn valuable real-life work experience. Beyond Civility

Now that the elections are over, do you believe that there is still the possibility of respectful public discourse, even among people of different beliefs? A group in Cincinnati does, and they have set out to prove it. Beyond Civility is working to increase respectful communication by showing that it can be done. This Monday, November 12, they will kick off their Side-by-Side series featuring State Senator Bill Seitz and Cincinnati Vice-Mayor Roxanne Qualls. To discuss their goals and this series, Mark Perzel welcomes organizers Bea Larsen and Robert Rack.
