Mark Perzel

Host of Cincinnati Edition

Mark Perzel hosts 91.7 WVXU’s Cincinnati Edition on Monday afternoons at 1:00 pm. 

In addition, he can be heard weekday evenings hosting classical music on 90.9 WGUC.  He is also known throughout the public radio industry for inventive, award-winning holiday programs like Tunes from the Crypt, Tunes from the Crypt Goes to the Movies, Feast for the Ears, andLove Greetings.

Mark has worked in the radio industry for more than thirty years. He began in the business when he was a teenager in Charlotte, North Carolina, volunteering for a public radio station.   He attended the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, majoring in broadcasting and minoring in violin performance.

He has performed speaking parts with performing organizations throughout the tri-state including the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Carnegie Opera Theatre, and the Linton Chamber Music Series, and done voiceover work for numerous commercials and industrial videos.

Ohioana Book Festival featuring Hamilton County authors

Authors from Hamilton County will gather on Sunday, April 21 at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County’s downtown branch as part of the Ohioana 2013 celebration. Elementz Hip-Hop Youth Center

It’s hard to believe, but Elementz, Cincinnati’s hip hop youth services organization, is celebrating its 8th anniversary this year. They moved into a new, larger space last year and continue to expand programs designed to keep our city’s young people safe, off the streets, and moving towards an educated, positive life. Brother Abdullah Powell, the creative director of Elementz, is in the studio with Mark Perzel to talk about the past eight years and what he sees for the organization in the coming years.

Local author Mike Due

Mike Due is a local author who has penned the first of what he plans on being a trilogy of stories set, in part, at his alma mater, Northern Kentucky University. Immaterial: Book 1: Discovery is part science fiction, part faith and all thought-provoking. Final ArtsWave Sampler on Saturday

The third and final Macy’s Arts Sampler from ArtsWave happens on Saturday, April 13, and will include the first Amazing Arts Race where teams vie to complete a series of arts-related challenges including trivia and art making. There will also be free events in Washington Park, the Taft Museum of Art, the Fitton Center and many more. Rebecca Bromels from ArtsWave tells Mark Perzel that all of this is leading up to the conclusion of the 2013 ArtsWave campaign and the public announcement of this year’s total raised on Tuesday, April 30.
