It was a strong year for local housing market

Area realtors say 2013 ended on a high note for home sales.  The Cincinnati Area Board of Realtors is reporting December closings rose 14.2 percent compared to a year earlier.  For the entire year, sales increased 20.84 percent.  The average home price rose 5.75 percent last year to $165,037.  

"The Greater Cincinnati Housing Market continues to improve at a moderate rate," said Ken Parchman, President of the CABR, in a statement.  "Our low inventory coupled with relatively low interest rates and stronger demand pushed the average price higher."

Jessica Fellowes, author of two companion books about the much-loved programs, will be at the main branch of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County at 2:00 PM Saturday to sign books and give a behind-the-scenes look at the series.

BRRRR! Let me shake this snow off my boots

This definitely has been a colder, snowier winter than usual.   Just ask the folks at the National Weather Service in Wilmington how much snow we've gotten.

"So far this winter, not including Tuesday's snowfall but through midnight last night, 20.1 inches at our official observing location at the Cincinnati Airport,"  said Seth Binau, Science Operations Officer at the NWS.

Secondhand smoke raises odds of hospital readmission for kids with asthma

Children exposed to secondhand smoke at home or in the car face much greater odds of being readmitted to the hospital for asthma.  In fact, it's a two-fold increase according to a study by Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and Penn State Milton S. Hershey Children's Hospital.  Researcher's measured the blood and saliva of more than 600 children, looking for cotinine, a substance produced when the body breaks down nicotine.
