Lee Hay

Announcer & Producer

Lee Hay has worked at all three Cincinnati Public Radio stations: WGUC in the mid-70's, WMUB in the late 70's, and WVXU since 1984. She is currently executive producer/host of the award-winning arts program Around Cincinnati Sunday evenings and The Blues on Saturday evenings. Her radio work has been awarded numerous awards including one from the Ohio Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, numerous Communicator Awards, Society of Professional Journalists and the Ohio Associated Broadcasters Association. Most recently she has received a Certificate of Merit from the Gabriel Awards for The Journey from Within; and recognition from the Ohio Associated Broadcasters Association for Cincinnati Baseball: Crosley Field (2011) and The Who Concert: 30 Years Later and Baseball: A Little Known Chapter (2010). Hay is also WVXU's music director and with her jazz background was the Cincinnati correspondent for downbeat magazine.

December 3, 1979 became an infamous night in Cincinnati history as the deaths of eleven concertgoers forever changed crowd control and emergency preparedness. The Who concert has never been forgotten, and there has never been such a complete look at that tragedy and its aftermath as The Who Concert: 30 Years Later.

The 5th Annual Cowboy Copas Memorial Concert happens August 16-17

Brian Powers from the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County joins Lee Hay in our studio to talk about the 5th Annual Cowboy Copas Memorial Concert on August 16 and 17. Copas is a music legend, born in Adams County, and who died tragically in the same place crash that took Patsy Cline’s life. The memorial concerts will take place in Winchester, Ohio and will feature great music and some special guests, including his daughter, singer Cathy Copas.

Rookwood beer stein ready for Cincy Blues Fest

Carving the beer stein

George Hibben, director of stein sales & development from the Rookood Pottery Co, is talking commemorative beer steins with Lee Hay. Again this year, the world-famous Rookwood Pottery artists have created a limited edition stein in conjunction with the Cincy Blues Society and this year's Cincy Blues Fest. The first run is for 300 steins and each one will be registered to the owner by the Cincy Blues Society.

King Records: Cincinnati Legacy

King Records: Cincinnati Legacy, is a five-part series hosted by Lee Hay and is produced to honor the label’s impact on Cincinnati and music.

The series includes interviews with former King musicians, music historians, and music fans. A roundtable discussion of King Records moderated by music journalist Larry Nager and including Otis Williams and the Charms (Jimmy Railey, J.J. Peterson, and Rufus Allen), session drummer Philip Paul and his wife Juanita, and vocalist Keith Little is also featured.
