Lee Hay

Announcer & Producer

Lee Hay has worked at all three Cincinnati Public Radio stations: WGUC in the mid-70's, WMUB in the late 70's, and WVXU since 1984. She is currently executive producer/host of the award-winning arts program Around Cincinnati Sunday evenings and The Blues on Saturday evenings. Her radio work has been awarded numerous awards including one from the Ohio Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, numerous Communicator Awards, Society of Professional Journalists and the Ohio Associated Broadcasters Association. Most recently she has received a Certificate of Merit from the Gabriel Awards for The Journey from Within; and recognition from the Ohio Associated Broadcasters Association for Cincinnati Baseball: Crosley Field (2011) and The Who Concert: 30 Years Later and Baseball: A Little Known Chapter (2010). Hay is also WVXU's music director and with her jazz background was the Cincinnati correspondent for downbeat magazine.

The Blues: A Tribute in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration on Monday, January 20th, I've produced a special tribute show.  The show begins with Sweet Honey in the Rock and ends with a moving piece from the compilation "The Long Road to Freedom" on Buddha Records.  The piece features Irving Barnes with "I'll Never Turn Back No Mo'" and an excerpt from Dr. King's "We Were Here" speech.  You'll also hear spirituals from Mahalia Jackson, Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, and the Blind Boys of Alabama.  There's poetry from Dr. Herbert Woodward Martin and Dr.

Dennis Williams - obituary

Dennis A. Williams, 57, originally and most recently of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away from acute complications of liver disease on January 7th, 2014 at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Dennis is survived by his devoted partner, Amy Lowe, and his two sons, Brandon and Aaron.

The Blues: 1/11/14 show

Cincinnati's music scene is rich with talented musicians many of whom will be highlighted on this show.  You'll hear Noah Hunt performing with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and the Bluebirds recorded at their old Sunday evening gig at Allyn's Cafe in Columbia Tusculum.  There's a song by the Goshorn Brothers and another by the Sacred Mushroom...plus music from Big Joe Duskin, Greg Schaber, and the Blues Merchants.  It's a local archival edition of the Blues!

Memorial Hall presenting music, art & food events in their historic space

2013 saw the start of Cincinnati’s Memorial Hall’s Signature Series of food, art and performance events. Lee Hay learns from Executive Director Teresa Summe-Haas that the New Year will bring more of these events. Friday, January 24 brings Choirs by Night featuring performances from the May Festival Chamber Choir, the Martin Luther King Choir and students from the SCPA. February 21 will be Bluegrass and Bourbon, and April 18 is Simply Swinging.
