Lee Hay

Announcer & Producer

Lee Hay has worked at all three Cincinnati Public Radio stations: WGUC in the mid-70's, WMUB in the late 70's, and WVXU since 1984. She is currently executive producer/host of the award-winning arts program Around Cincinnati Sunday evenings and The Blues on Saturday evenings. Her radio work has been awarded numerous awards including one from the Ohio Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, numerous Communicator Awards, Society of Professional Journalists and the Ohio Associated Broadcasters Association. Most recently she has received a Certificate of Merit from the Gabriel Awards for The Journey from Within; and recognition from the Ohio Associated Broadcasters Association for Cincinnati Baseball: Crosley Field (2011) and The Who Concert: 30 Years Later and Baseball: A Little Known Chapter (2010). Hay is also WVXU's music director and with her jazz background was the Cincinnati correspondent for downbeat magazine.

Memorial Hall's Signature Series Swing concert

Memorial Hall will present their Signature Series "Simply Swinging" concert on Friday, April 18th.  The show will feature Steve Lippia with the Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra.  Before the concert, the Mad Men-themed reception will include Salon 21, lite bites by Elegant Fare and Catered Affair, plus cocktails from Obscura and Madisono's gelato.  The reception and open bar begins at 6:30pm followed by the performance at 8, and dancing at 9pm.  The evening is co-presented by the Blue Wisp and Memor

Toots Thielemans announces his retirement

According to today's New York Times website, Belgian jazz musician Toots Thielemans has decided to retire at the age of 91.  Famous for his harmonica, he decided to leave the stage because he "considers his energy too limited for a full concert."  But what a legacy he's retiring with....

The Blues with Lee Hay: 3.15.14 show

We're going to begin the show with a set highlighting events which have happened over the years on the date, March 15th.  Lightnin' Hopkins was born on 3/15/12, Ry Cooder's birthdate is 3/15/47.  James Brown's song, "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" received a Grammy on 3/15/66, and finally on 3/15/68, Life Magazine called Jimi Hendrix "the most spectacular guitarist in the world."
