Jay Hanselman

Reporter and Co-Host of Cincinnati Edition

Jay Hanselman brings more than 10 years experience as a news anchor and reporter to 91.7 WVXU. He came to WVXU from WNKU, where he hosted the local broadcast of All Things Considered.  Hanselman has been recognized for his reporting by the Kentucky AP Broadcasters Association, the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists, and the Ohio AP Broadcasters.

Hanselman covers Cincinnati City Hall for WVXU and co-hosts Cincinnati Edition on Thursday afternoons at 1:00 pm.

Water utility leaders discussing business model in Cincy this week

Hundreds of water and sewer utility managers from the across the country are in Cincinnati this week.  They're here for the National Association of Clean Water Agencies 2013 summer conference.  
Some topics being discussed include innovative management, financing and a more resilient business model for public utilities.

Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan Sewer District Executive Director Tony Parrott said the industry is experiencing a rebirth.

Streetcar opening day set

Cincinnati officials Monday signed a contract for construction work on the city's controversial streetcar system. 

The action means Cincinnati-based Messer Construction and two other firms can proceed with the project.  That includes ordering materials, and beginning track construction, plus the power system, the stations and a maintenance and operation facility located at Race and Henry Streets. 

The city says the system could be ready for passengers on September 15, 2016.

Streetcar work means downtown street closure this weekend

Some preliminary construction work on the Cincinnati streetcar project will result in a downtown street closing this weekend.

Duke Energy will be working at the intersection of Fifth and Walnut Streets to relocate underground electric facilities, according to a press release from the city.

The closures will begin Friday at 6 p.m. and remain in place until Monday at 6 a.m.

West Fifth Street will be closed between Vine and Main.  Walnut Street will be closed between East Sixth and East Fourth.

Cincinnati Police changing call response system

Beginning Sunday the Cincinnati Police Department will be changing how it responds to some calls for service in the city.  

Interim Police Chief Paul Humphries said the decision comes after analyzing the department's response history.

OKI set to release new information on strategic plan

The Ohio Kentucky Indiana Regional Council of Governments is continuing efforts to plan for the region's future.  It's holding an event Wednesday evening to reveal the findings from a "How Do We Grow From Here Questionnaire."

Communication Director Brian Cunningham said there are about 32 issues facing the region.
