Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 10 marks each Memorial Day with a ceremony at their monument in Cincinnati's Eden Park.

This year's speaker was David Foster, First Sergeant, United States Marine Corps (Ret.). Foster enlisted in July 1980 and served multiple tours of duty including Operation Iraqi Freedom 2003; Operation New Horizon/Nicaragua 1999; and Operation Desert Storm 1990-1991.

GOP convention here? Well, there's just no place to put it

In the end, Cincy2016, the group trying to bring the 2016 Republican National Convention to Cincinnati, had just about everything they needed to host such a massive event.

Everything except an arena capable of holding the convention.

Hotel space? Check. Transportation for delegates and guests? Check. Plenty of amenities such as bars and restaurants within walking distance of downtown hotels? Check.

But the 40-year-old U.S. Bank Arena – plenty big enough for a minor league hockey team, circuses, ice shows and hard rock concerts – just couldn’t cut the mustard.

State regulators shut down Cincinnati bank

Ohio banking regulators  shut down Columbia Savings Bank in Clifton Friday.  Here's the statement from the Ohio Department of Commerce:

Columbia Savings Bank, Cincinnati, Ohio was closed today by the Ohio Division of Financial Institutions, which appointed the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as receiver.

Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 1165.18, the Superintendent of the Ohio Division of Financial Institutions may take possession of a savings bank if it is in an unsafe or unsound condition to continue the business of banking.

Hamilton County leaders want sewer director ousted

Hamilton County Commissioners say cost overruns on Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) projects are too high and are indicating leadership is the problem.

In other words: MSD director Tony Parrott needs to go.

In a letter to interim Cincinnati city manager Scott Stiles, Hamilton County Administrator Christian Sigman says "major cost overruns within several federal Consent Decree projects is merely a symptom of larger management issues within MSD."
