New numbers suggest more families are becoming homeless in Greater Cincinnati. The five shelters who serve them (Bethany House Services, Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Cincinnati, Mercy Health at St. John's, The Salvation Army and the YWCA) report a 31-percent increase in the number of calls to a help line in the past year.
Architects say they're about a month or two away from having a final design for the new dunnhumbyUSA building at the corner of Fifth and Race in downtown Cincinnati.
Officials updated the city's Urban Design Review Board Tuesday about their preliminary work. They said the challenge is to design a contemporary building that fits into the existing urban fabric of the city. Architects say the outside of the building will be pre-cast concrete and lots of glass. The concrete will have a dark color and will feature some texture.
We now know who'll be leading the chicken dance at next month's Oktoberfest Zinzinnati.
The Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce announced Monday actor George Takei will be the event's grand marshal and will lead the Saturday dance.
“Who famously played Mr. Sulu on the original Star Trek TV series and six movies that followed,” said Chamber Vice President Patrick Sheeran. “George continues to be extremely active and popular decades after the show went to syndication.”
Takei is also taking part in performances that weekend with the Cincinnati Pops.
