ODOT schedules public meetings on Oasis Rail

The Ohio Department of Transportation is holding three meetings this week to provide updates on the development of Greater Cincinnati's first commuter rail line.  ODOT will also be gathering input from the public about the the Oasis Rail Transit project.

Streetcar supporters aim for ballot issue

Spokesman Ryan Messer says the group will try to get an amendment on the ballot to let voters decide the streetcar issue.

Streetcar supporters are launching a campaign to put a charter amendment on the February ballot forcing the city to finish the streetcar. The group We Believe in Cincinnati says it needs 5,700 signatures but is aiming for 12,000 by Saturday.

No surprise, staffing problems for Cincy police and fire

The Cincinnati Police and Fire Departments are continuing to deal with problems because of the decreasing number of personnel.  

The police and fire chiefs both addressed Council’s Law and Public Safety Committee Monday.

Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell said a smaller staff means it takes officers longer to respond to 911 calls for service, even those that are a priority.  And it could cause a change to the way the department polices the city.

Hamilton County Park District needs help for annual bird audit

Great Parks of Hamilton County

Hamilton County Parks is looking for volunteers for its Winter Bird Count on Saturday, December 14, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The park district says keeping a running count of native birds is critical to monitoring environmental trends in the parks. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their binoculars, bundle up and head out to help for the whole or just part of the day. At 4:15 p.m., find out the grand tally of all the parks at Winton Woods’ Winton Centre.
