Governor hits the road with Ohio transportation plan

Road projects around the state are expected to get a boost from the new transportation plan.

Hamilton County Commissioners and other local leaders are throwing their support behind Governor Kasich's plan to use the Ohio Turnpike to generate funding for road projects. 

Kasich talked about the proposal during a press conference in Cincinnati Friday, the second day of his state tour promoting it.  He said it would generate about $3 billion without leasing the Turnpike or laying off Turnpike employees.

Cincinnati Council approves budget; property taxes increase in 2014

The full Cincinnati Council has formally approved the 2013 city budget.

Most of the votes were 6-3…with Qualls, Young, Quinlivan, Seelbach, Simpson and Thomas voting yes and Sittenfeld, Smitherman and Winburn voting no.

Council didn’t vote Friday to approve leasing the operation of some city parking facilities to a private company.

Miami University names new Athletic Director

Miami University

Miami University is naming David Sayler as its new Director of Athletics. Sayler comes from the University of South Dakota where he was in charge of intercollegiate athletics for two-and-a-half years.

Sayler replaces Brad Bates who left in October to take the athletic director position at Boston College.

Recorder's office to remain open on Fridays

Hamilton County Recorder Wayne Coates reversed his decision to close his office on Fridays due to budget cuts after more money was made available to his office Thursday.

Coates' office put out a statement late Thursday afternoon saying that Coates and Hamilton County commission president Greg Hartmann "reviewed updated recorder revenue projections for 2013 and concluded that more resources should be made available" to allow the office to stay open on Fridays.

Coates said in the statement that his earlier decision to reduce his 21-member staff by three will stand, though.

Study finds gaps in Hamilton County housing stock

A new study finds a large unmet housing need for the elderly and disabled in Hamilton County.

The report was commissioned by the Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA). It looks at the county's housing stock, structural integrity, neighborhood demographics and community amenities.
