Inaugural bound? We want to hear from you

Are you headed to Washington, D.C. in January for President Obama’s inauguration?


If so, 91.7 WVXU would like to hear from you.


We are planning a series on local people who are making the trip – either on their own or in groups. We’d like to share your stories of why you are going, what your plans are for Washington, and once you get there, we’d like to follow up with you on your experience.


We are hoping that many of you will be willing to share your photographs from the inauguration on wvxu.org and on ok our Facebook page.

Final public hearing on Cincinnati budget

Cincinnati Council will spend the rest of the week completing work on the 2013 city budget. 


About 40 people spoke during the final public hearing Monday night in Corryville.


There were again a number of speakers who asked Council to preserve funding for Media Bridges.  It operates several cable-access channels and a small radio station in the city.


Executive Director Tom Bishop said turnout for the group should show Council Members the value of the service.

Cincinnati Council ready to approve large casino sign

When the Horseshoe Casino opens next spring it will likely have an 80-foot tall sign to attract customers.  

The full City Council is expected to approve the idea next week.  The Budget and Finance Committee Monday approved the sign.  

Council Member Chris Seelbach is supportive.

“I think most reasonable people would say that this sign makes sense,” Seelbach said.  “I don’t know that you can see it from Over The Rhine because of where it is positioned at the casino site and how low it is.”

Ryan Ludwick a Red for 2 more years

The Cincinnati Reds have signed outfielder Ryan Ludwick to a two year deal worth $15 million. The contract goes through the 2014 season with a mutual option for 2015. During last season Ludwick hit .275 with 26 home runs and 80 RBIs. In a Reds news release General Manager Walt Jockety said the 34 year old was important to the Reds success last year and the team is looking to keep that momentum going into next season.

Northern Kentucky company set to expand

A Northern Kentucky company is expanding its facility and hiring more workers.  Governor Steve Beshear announced Monday that Indy Honeycomb is adding 13 full-time jobs.  It's a $915,000 investment that includes doubling production space, adding office space and purchasing equipment. 

The company makes metal honeycomb for military, commercial and industrial use, including parts for aircraft engines and power generation turbines.  Indy Honeycomb currently employs 29 people at its manufacturing plant in Covington.
