Reduced hours at Recorder's Office 'bad for business'

Angry employees and people who regularly use the Hamilton County Recorder's office packed Commission chambers Wednesday. They want funding restored to the Recorder's budget so he won't go through with closing the office on Friday's.

Earlier this month Wayne Coates announced the four-day work week is needed to manage the nearly 25 percent cut to his 2013 budget.

Paul Berlage with the Southwestern Ohio Land Title Association says avoiding filing delays is paramount.

New casino gets official opening date

The Ohio Casino Control Commission says Horseshoe Cincinnati has been granted a public opening date of March Fourth next year.  

The casino will be the last of four voter-approved casinos to open in the state in less than one year.  Construction at the site started in February 2011 and is now in its final stages.  

Casino General Manager Kevin Kline says in a statement efforts to hire and train about 1,700 new workers are on schedule and several hundred slot machines have already been placed on the gaming floor.

Changes coming to Cincinnati garbage collection

City of Cincinnati

Cincinnati Council will likely vote next week on an ordinance making major changes to how the city picks up your trash.  Officials have been studying the issue for a couple years.  

Budget Director Lea Erikson is the co-chair of a task force recommending the changes.  She said the plan has several goals.

“To modernize the language, improve safety, create clear and consistent rules, enable new technology, limit excessive trash, resume yard waste collection and decrease cost,” Erikson said.

Reds acquire a lead-off hitter in Shin-Soo Choo

The Cincinnat Reds found the lead-off hitter they were looking for Tuesday when they dealt center fielder Drew Stubbs and infield prospect Didi Gregorious to the Cleveland Indians for veteran outfielder Shin-Soo Choo and utility infielder Jason Donald.

Gregorius, a shortstop who appeared in eight games for the Reds in a September call-up, was immediately dealt by the Indians to the Arizona Diamonbacks.

Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said the 30-year-old Choo "can fill the missing parts in our lineup both offensively and defensively."

More details on Cincinnati parking proposal

Cincinnati's City Manager released more details Tuesday about 8 of the 9 companies that submitted proposals to operate some of the city's parking facilities. 

Milton Dohoney, Jr. said in a memo 3 of the firms are offering an upfront payment ranging from $100 to $150 million plus revenue sharing provisions.
