Changes coming to Cincinnati garbage collection

Cincinnati Council will likely vote next week on an ordinance making major changes to how the city picks up your trash.  Officials have been studying the issue for a couple years.  

Budget Director Lea Erikson is the co-chair of a task force recommending the changes.  She said the plan has several goals.

“To modernize the language, improve safety, create clear and consistent rules, enable new technology, limit excessive trash, resume yard waste collection and decrease cost,” Erikson said.

Reds acquire a lead-off hitter in Shin-Soo Choo

The Cincinnat Reds found the lead-off hitter they were looking for Tuesday when they dealt center fielder Drew Stubbs and infield prospect Didi Gregorious to the Cleveland Indians for veteran outfielder Shin-Soo Choo and utility infielder Jason Donald.

Gregorius, a shortstop who appeared in eight games for the Reds in a September call-up, was immediately dealt by the Indians to the Arizona Diamonbacks.

Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said the 30-year-old Choo "can fill the missing parts in our lineup both offensively and defensively."

More details on Cincinnati parking proposal

Cincinnati's City Manager released more details Tuesday about 8 of the 9 companies that submitted proposals to operate some of the city's parking facilities. 

Milton Dohoney, Jr. said in a memo 3 of the firms are offering an upfront payment ranging from $100 to $150 million plus revenue sharing provisions.

UC President gets 10-year contract

University of Cincinnati

University of Cincinnati President Santa Ono is getting a 10-year deal to the lead the school.

The University of Cincinnati trustees Tuesday voted unanimously to pay Ono a base salary of $525,000 per year. That salary will be reviewed annually. He's also eligible for yearly bonuses.

His contract runs October 23, 2012 through October 22, 2022.

Ono will also have use of a university car and have all job-related travel and entertainment expenses reimbursed.

Quinnipiac Poll: Good news and bad news for Kasich

More Ohio voters approve than disapprove of Ohio Gov. John Kasich's job performance, but they are still not convinced he should be re-elected in 2014, according to a Quinnipiac University Poll released Tuesday.
