Is Cincinnati making progress in the bed bug fight?

The Cincinnati Health Department says the number of residents with bed bug infestation is down seven percent since 2009. But at least two members of the Joint Bed Bug Task Force disagree that the city is making real progress.


Ohio Representative Dale Mallory leads the task force and says he's frustrated that Cincinnati hasn't worked hard enough to get bigger decreases. He says the city is still near the top on many U.S. bed bug lists.

Good Friday pilgramage draws faithful to Mt. Adams

An annual Good Friday tradition is underway in Mt. Adams.

At midnight, Bishop Joseph Binzer blessed the steps of Holy Cross - Immaculata church and the annual praying of the steps began.

Thousands of people will spend a portion of this Good Friday in prayer and reflection, slowly climbing the steps leading up to the church.

It's a tradition that dates back more than 150 years.

Judge issues permanent injunction in city parking lease case

A Hamilton County judge is granting a permanent injunction stopping Cincinnati from moving ahead with its parking lease plan until voters have a chance to decide the issue. 

Judge Robert Winkler writes the essential issue in the case is whether the city's emergency clause in the lease ordinance precludes a referendum.  He concludes it does not.

How the parking referendum petition process works

Here's how it works:

The magic number is 8,522.

That is how many valid signatures of voters in the city of Cincinnati that opponents of the ordinance to lease out Cincinnati parking meters and garages need to place a referendum on the ordinance on the November ballot.

The petitions are filed with the city finance director. Amy Murray, a Republican city council candidate who is one of the leaders of the petition drive, said they plan to submit their signatures to the finance director on Tuesday of next week.

Cincinnati Children's breaks ground on Family Pet Center

For young children fighting serious illnesses and practically living in a hospital, life can be very ruff, er, rough. Studies show interacting with animals boosts spirits and helps patients heal. Now Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is building a Family Pet Center to reunite long-term patients with the own pets.

The hospital says it is the first pediatric hospital in the country to build such a facility.
