Vote fraud defendant seeks diversion program

A 75-year-old Symmes Township man charged with illegally casting an absentee ballot for his deceased wife last fall has asked a Hamilton County Common Pleas Court judge to place him in a diversion program, thus avoiding jail time.

Russell Glossop was charged with voter fraud after mailing in an absentee for his wife, Betty Ann Glossop, who died on Oct. 1 last year. She had requested an absentee ballot in August. The absentee ballots were not mailed out until Oct. 4, three days after her death.

Glossop is one of three persons charged with voter fraud.

Reds release details for Opening Day

Manager of Team USA in the 2013 World Baseball Classic, Joe Torre will throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Reds opening day, on Monday.  In a release, the team announced the gates will open three hours before game time at 1:10 PM. 

Earlier the Reds Community Fund will sponsor a Charity Block Party on Joe Nuxhall Way and Freedom Way.  That starts at 11:00 AM.

Sheriff's office wants more staff to keep up with higher jail populations

The Hamilton County Sheriff's office is asking for extra staff to keep up with the added work now that "revolving door" at the jail is closed.

Major Charmaine McGuffey wants three additional officers to handle increased record keeping. She's asking for two officers with a base pay of $37,000 and one at $42,000 (not including benefits).

The department also wants to purchase 215 additional electronic monitoring units and add two staff to operate them. The total price tag for that would be around $546,126.
