Aid continuing to flow to Moore, OK from Cincinnati

Matthew 25 Ministries of Blue Ash is preparing a third shipment for tornado victims in Moore, OK. The disaster relief organization says it has had more than 600 volunteers since the tornado hit. WVXU photographer Holly Yurchison took pictures as adults and children filled personal care kits.

Two county commissioners ask OKI to pull streetcar funding

Hamilton County Commissioners Chris Monzel and Greg Hartmann are calling on the Ohio Kentucky Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI) to pull promised dollars from the Cincinnati Streetcar project.

In a letter, the pair say that because of "significant cost overruns" they believe OKI's $4 million could be better spent elsewhere. They also request alternative options for the money's use be brought before the OKI executive council.

They write:

Vets cure puppy's heart with Tri-State's first-ever procedure

A Labrador Retriever puppy named Maggie is recovering at home after undergoing the first minimally invasive heart procedure of its kind ever preformed in the Tri-State.

The four-month-old was born with a Patent Ductus Arteriosis (PDA), a congenital heart defect.

Typically the defect is fixed through open-chest surgery but Drs. Megan McLane and Maggie Schuckman of the Care Center in Blue Ash used a minimally invasive intravascular technique that drastically reduces the animal's recovery.

Behind the scenes look at new Reds statue

The Reds will be unveiling a new statue at Great American Ball Park later this year in honor of Hall-of-Fame Second Baseman Joe Morgan.  Sculptor Tom Tsuchiya  is putting the finishing touches on it this week at his studio. 

If you've been to the ballpark, you're already familiar with Tsuchiya's work.  He created the statues of Ted Kluszewski, Frank Robinson, Ernie Lombardi, Joe Nuxhall and Johnny Bench.  He's also the artist for several statues at Xavier University, including the one of the Musketeer d'Artagnan, and the new Jesus statue at Solid Rock Church in Monroe.

Could county and city be facing a sewer deadlock?

Hamilton County Commissioners are ordering the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) to suspend work until the City of Cincinnati changes a new hiring policy.

The County owns MSD but it's operated by the city.

On Wednesday, commissioners passed a resolution stopping work on all projects affected by the city's policy. The county argues the policy, which requires an apprenticeship program, unfairly excludes many non-union companies from bidding for construction jobs.
