The Macy’s Holiday Tree installation, delayed a week due to a snapped trunk in the original tree, is planned for this Saturday, November 16. The new 55-foot Norway Spruce will adorn Fountain Square, on the corner of Fifth and Vine, through early January.
The tree is traveling about 220 miles from Rittman, Ohio and is set to arrive by 6 a.m. Initial tree installation will run from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and decoration is expected to be complete by Wednesday of the following week.
Supporters of the Cincinnati streetcar are asking people to contact mayor-elect John Cranley and council members-elect to keep the project alive. Cranley campaigned against it and vowed to stop it if elected.
Streetcar supporters held a public forum Thursday night at the Mercantile Library in downtown. An overflow crowd watched the session on the video board at Fountain Square.
Supporters said the project is important for three reasons: reputation, community and the future.

The task force studying Northern Kentucky's increasing heroin problem recommends a combination of increased police presence, legislation and prevention, treatment and recovery. The four-year plan to stabilize and reverse the epidemic, called Northern Kentucky's Collective Response to the Heroin Epidemic, is expected to cost $4 million.
