Star Trek actor to lead Oktoberfest chicken dance

Actor George Takei, who be in Cincinnati in September for Oktoberfest

We now know who'll be leading the chicken dance at next month's Oktoberfest Zinzinnati.  

The Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce announced Monday actor George Takei will be the event's grand marshal and will lead the Saturday dance.

“Who famously played Mr. Sulu on the original Star Trek TV series and six movies that followed,” said Chamber Vice President Patrick Sheeran.  “George continues to be extremely active and popular decades after the show went to syndication.”

Takei is also taking part in performances that weekend with the Cincinnati Pops.

Cincinnati/Middletown: Bottom 20 for real estate recovery

These foreclosed homes in Evanston are decreasing area property values. Evanston is part of a pilot program where banks are held responsible for cutting the grass and taking care of the properties they own.

In its first-ever Housing Market Recovery Index, RealtyTrac reports the Cincinnati/Middletown market is in the  bottom 20 markets which lag the real estate recovery nationally. (among the 100 markets ranked by RealtyTrac)

JobsOhio: Boon or bust for Kasich?

So, the Ohio Ethics Commission said this week it has no reason to investigate Gov. John Kasich’s ethical relationship with a company that received more than $500,000 in state tax credits.

End of story, right?

Well, maybe not.

It is a story that involves JobsOhio, the private non-profit economic development firm created by Kasich soon after he became governor to replace the public Ohio Department of Development.

Globe traveling street artists are back in town

In 1998, Chaz Barrissonn and Bob Gibson started their quest to spread their unique street art around the world.  Thirty-five countries, 100 shows and 15 years later, the duo, known as The London Police, find themselves at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport creating a mural near the ticketing area.
