Cincinnati Council takes up pension charter amendment Tuesday

A Cincinnati Council Committee will likely vote Tuesday to place a charter amendment on the November ballot that would change the city's retirement.  

The committee doesn't have a choice since the group behind the effort collected enough valid signatures to get the issue before voters.

Is Kasich up or is Kasich down?

Odd, very odd.

Two public opinion polls, taken about two months apart, asking Ohio voters the same question: who would you vote for governor if the 2014 election were held today, Republican incumbent John Kasich or Democratic challenger Ed FitzGerald?

The first one, done by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute in June, had Kasich leading FitzGerald, the Cuyahoga County Executive, by 14 percentage points – 47 percent to 33 percent. In a poll with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percent, that is a comfortable lead.

AAA expects jump in Labor Day travel

If you're going out of town for the Labor Day weekend, you'll have lots of company.  AAA is projecting  34.1 million Americans will be traveling at least 50 miles from home, a 4.2 percent increase from last year. Nearly 1.4 million Ohioans will also be traveling, up 3.3 percent. 

"This is the highest number that we've seen for Labor Day travel since the decline during the recession," said Cheryl Parker, AAA Corporate Public Affairs Manager.  "It appears the improving economy is helping to get more people feeling more comfortable about taking a road trip for this holiday weekend."
