Oktoberfest road closures

As you're donning your lederhosen and getting ready to head  to Oktoberfest Zinzinnati keep in mind there will be some road closures and parking changes.

These streets are now closed until 5 a.m. Monday:

  • Fifth Street between Vine and Sentinel
  • Walnut between Fourth and Sixth
  • Main Street between Fourth and Sixth
  • Sycamore between Fourth and Sixth
  • Broadway between Fourth and Sixth

Broadway will be temporarily converted from one-way to two-way between Seventh and Sixth Streets.

Brennaman signs extension with Reds

The Cincinnati Reds have signed Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman to a three-year contract extension through the 2016 season to serve as the play-by-play voice of the Reds on Radio Network.  The 71-year-old Brennaman has been the lead voice of the Reds radio team since 1974.  He shared the booth for 31 years with Reds Hall of Fame pitcher Joe Nuxhall.

Internet cafe referendum

Will internet cafe issue make the ballot?

The gamble that internet cafe backers have taken to try to stop a law effectively banning those establishments may not pay off. The supporters of those cafes, also called sweepstakes parlors, launched a petition drive to stop the law and put it before voters. But early estimates show that they may not have the 231,000 signatures they need to get the law onto next year’s ballot. Secretary of State Jon Husted said his office will know next week.

Housing market continues to see double-digit increases

Home sales up 24% in Cincinnati

For the 26th straight month Cincinnati homes sales have continued to climb. In August they were up 24% when compared to the same month last year. President of the Cincinnati Area Board of Realtors Kevin Kelly says, "Our local housing market is very active and properties that are in good condition and are prices right seem to be selling quickly."

Children's to test new bird flu vaccine

Avian flu

Cincinnati Children's Hospital is taking preliminary steps to protect you from the bird flu.

The hospital is one of nine centers nationwide enrolling people to test an avian influenza vaccine. Even though the virus hasn't been detected in the U.S. and isn't easily spread between people, the lead Cincinnati Children's researcher says he's concerned it might start to spread rapidly and doctors need to be prepared with a vaccine to protect people.
