Oh & Ky transportation leaders discuss Brent Spence options

Leaders in Ohio and Kentucky say the Brent Spence Bridge Project remains on target for a 2015 ground breaking but there's still no solid funding plan in place.

Mike Hancock of Kentucky says the states need to get creative when it comes to funding the project.

"There are opportunities to work with the community to see if there's anything we can do to make the toll rates more palatable."

Ohio Transportation secretary Jerry Wray agrees that tolling is part of the answer but not the entire solution.

Qualls would select Young for vice mayor

Roxanne Qualls says if she's elected Cincinnati mayor in the November election, she'll select Council Member Wendell Young to be her Vice Mayor.

Qualls made the announcement Monday during a press conference on the sidewalk outside the Hamilton County Board of Elections

“He is someone who has shown, since he’s been on City Council, tremendous judgment, maturity, and leadership as well as a clear ability to work with the other members of Council to forge coalitions and also to be very collaborative,” Qualls said.

City Manager Milton Dohoney, Jr. administered the oath of office Monday to Jeffrey Blackwell during a ceremony at the Duke Energy Center

“I can assure you all that I will not disappoint nor will I lack the effort or enthusiasm to guide this department to unchartered heights and unparalleled professionalism,” Blackwell said.

Tea Party convention in Ohio shows split with GOP

Tea Party activists are being told they have a lot of opportunity in next year’s elections, as they continue to oppose Republicans on several issues. But they also are being told they have a lot of work to do.

The more than 300 activists at the statewide Tea Party’s annual We The People Convention seem to be standing solidly against the Republican Party’s most visible candidate next year.

Concussion hospital visits increase in Cincinnati

A new study released Monday in the online version of the Journal Pediatrics finds a 92% increase in the number of children and teens going to the hospital emergency room with sports-related traumatic brain injuries (TBI), such as concussions.
