At least one of these 13 will be on Cincinnati Council

One thing is certain in this year’s Cincinnati City Council election – there will be at least one new member taking office on Dec. 1.

Vice Mayor Roxanne Qualls is running for mayor; and that opens her seat to one of the 13 challengers in a field of 21 candidates, which includes all eight incumbents.

Children's "bucking the trend" by investing in mental health

The College Hill Campus will expand, thanks to the $20 million donation.

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is the recipient of a $20 million gift, its single largest contribution ever. The money comes from the Convalescent Hospital for Children, established in 1833  It no longer has a physical building, but for years has been raising funds and providing support for specialized programs housed at Cincinnati Children's.

NKU and Gateway make getting a degree easier, less expensive

Gateway Community College and Northern Kentucky University are partnering to make it easier for Gateway students to pursue four-year degrees at NKU.

Students can choose from 25 career paths and take up to four NKU classes at Gateway prices. All of their credits will transfer as well.

NKU President Geoffrey Mearns says the partnership will offer  better service to all students, more efficient and effective use of resources and enhance opportunities for students to pursue their goals.

Here's what the Reds had to say about Dusty Baker leaving the team:

Cincinnati Reds President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Walt Jocketty has announced the team will make a managerial change heading into the 2014 season.

The new manager will replace Dusty Baker, who went 509-463 in his 6 seasons in Cincinnati. There was no announcement regarding changes on the coaching staff.

Possible solution to sewer district standoff?

Could a Metropolitan Sewer District stalemate between Cincinnati and Hamilton County be coming to an end?

The sides have been at odds over city-enacted hiring policies. The county specifically doesn't like a responsible bidder provision requiring contractors to graduate apprentices (at least one per year for five years).

Councilman Chris Seelbach is proposing a solution he thinks the county will like. He says he's willing to throw out the apprentice graduation requirement in favor of an incentive program.
