On this edition of All Songs Considered, hosts Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton share a brand new song from Beck. The new cut, called "Gimme," is the third single he's released since June and by far the strangest (i.e., best) of the bunch. None of the songs will be on the new full-length record Beck hopes to release before the end of the year.

Buffalo Killers: Ohio Grass

Buffalo Killers is a band that doesn’t seem to ever sit still.

Shortly after the release of their 4th full-length recording, Dig. Sow. Love. Grow., they were quick to follow it up with Ohio Grass,  a 6-song EP specially-crafted for release on Record Store Day.  Ohio Grass comes out swinging with the opening track, ‘Baptized’ -  a soulful and deeply-resonating hymn.

Since the band’s formation in 2006 the Buffalo Killers’ sound has been compared favorably to such giants as Neil Young, The Grateful Dead, Cream and The Black Crowes, with whom the band toured, shortly after the release of their self-titled debut album.

2013 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition is Saturday, September 14 at CCM’s Corbett Auditorium

The world's best up-and-coming jazz trumpet players will converge at UC's College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) this week to compete for $15,000 in total prizes during the International Trumpet Guild's 2013 Carmine Caruso International Jazz and Trumpet Solo Competition, sponsored by the Herb Alpert Foundation.

I am a big fan of Halloween and scary movies so I’ve been to a lot of haunted houses in my time.  In my experience, they usually involve somebody clutching onto you as you guide them through a semi-dark maze that is dotted with dizzying strobe lights and lots of plastic body parts soaked in fake blood while people in creepy clown masks or mad scientists jump out at you from various hidden corners.

College Hill's Bicentennial Celebration

Lee Hay spoke with Diana Porter who is the organizer of a bicentennial celebration of College Hill on Saturday, September 21st from 11am-4pm.  The celebration will be a living history event spanning four neighborhoods from Northside to Mt. Healthy, with 9 living history sites focusing on the theme of abolition and the Underground Railroad.
