Cincinnati will close-down traffic on two major roads on Saturday, July 19 - one on the east side of town, one on the west - to create a car-free space for everyone to play, run, walk, bike, skate, dance, create art, connect with their neighbors, and support local businesses. The two events are free, fun, and all are invited. To give us a preview of the events is Margy Waller, serendipity director with Art on the Streets, and Melissa McVay, City of Cincinnati Department of Transportation & Engineering Senior City Planner, and city liaison for bike programs.

Fri, 18 Jul 2014 08:00:00 +0000 Mark Perzel 29309 at http://wvxu.org There will be dancin', and more, in the streets on July 19 for Cincy Summer Streets Cincinnati gets federal grant for bike trails http://wvxu.org/post/cincinnati-gets-federal-grant-bike-trails
Cincinnati is getting $1 million from the federal government for bike trails. The funds come from the Transportation Alternatives program from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

A city press release said half of the money will be used to expand a West Side bicycle route to make it easier for students to get to school. The rest will be used to repair potholes on the Lunken Trail along Wilmer Avenue.

The Westwood Trail will create a “Safe Routes to School” connection with Western Hills High School.
Tue, 17 Jun 2014 19:30:04 +0000 Jay Hanselman 28117 at http://wvxu.org Cincinnati gets federal grant for bike trails Works beginning on Central Pkwy bike lanes http://wvxu.org/post/works-beginning-central-pkwy-bike-lanes
Interim Cincinnati City Manager Scott Stiles said Friday the contractor has been given "notice-to-proceed" and work has begun on Central Parkway Bikeway.

A memo said the revised plan keeps 15 parking spaces on the south side of Central Parkway opposite Ravine Street. Business owner Tim Haines had requested the modification to maintain parking in front of his building. That includes a loading zone and two handicap spaces.
Fri, 06 Jun 2014 14:27:08 +0000 Jay Hanselman 27644 at http://wvxu.org Works beginning on Central Pkwy bike lanes Bike Week http://wvxu.org/post/bike-week

Sun, 11 May 2014 11:30:00 +0000 Mark Heyne 26569 at http://wvxu.org Bike Week Bike Share hopes to roll into Cincinnati this summer http://wvxu.org/post/bike-share-hopes-roll-cincinnati-summer
Bike Share, the increasingly popular membership program allowing riders to check out bikes at multiple locations around town, is anticipated to open up in Cincinnati this summer.

New Executive Director of Cincy Bike Share Jason Barron says, "this is not just for bike enthusiasts...going to a meeting, running an errand, or going to lunch will be a lot more accessible from the time standpoint."
